Dan and I rarely go out on Valentine's Day, fighting the crowds just doesn't seem worth it. But this year we got reservations at The Palm, and were toying with the idea of acting like normal adults and spending the evening out. That is, until that morning we were getting ready and the radio interviewed Robin Wright, from House of Cards. When we realized House of Cards was being released that night we didn't even have to discuss it, we were spending the night in.
Dan knows that when I say, "don't get me anything for Valentine's Day", it means "please get me chocolate covered strawberries and flowers?" Good man.
I got Dan a little something too, primarily these really romantic House of Card valentines:
And who said romance is dead?
Highlight of the Week: This last weekend was 70 degrees, it felt like summer just burst through the cold of winter. Dan and I have been wanting to hike the whole outer loop of the Arbor Hill Nature Preserve, and we decided Saturday was the day to do it.
Dan and I have attempted to complete the outer loop numerous times, but always veer off early. This time we continued on the outer loop, only to learn that we were less then half a mile away from completing it. Such a let down! If we had known that we would have completed it long ago...
Lowlight of the Week: Olympic spoilers! Is it just me, or does it seem like the networks could care less about spoiling the results this year? I have been spoiled by MSN, NPR, the Kidd Kraddick morning show, and my mother (thanks a lot MOM!). Also? Why wasn't the Russia vs. USA hockey game played live? It was like 10 a.m. on a Saturday. I am so annoyed by it all I don't really care to watch (or rather, would much rather House of Cards.)
Photos of the Week: (Perhaps I should rename this section: Gratuitous Photos of My Dogs.)
Dan convinced me to go golfing with him two days in a row. I like golfing, generally, but Dan is turning this into a Mario Kart obsession. You may remember, the year he woke up at 4:00 a.m. to play Mario Kart before class? (You don't remember? I do.) Or the year he would walk up early and play cups so obsessively he was literally making world record times. I have always kind of admired this quality, his ability to literally laser focus on something until he masters it. But I digress. My fear is that he is doing this now with golf.
I can handle about nine holes of golf before I am over it. So we took two cars to the course, and when I got home I heard the familiar bark of the dogs as I pulled in. When I walked in the back door Kadira greeted me and immediately looked around me for Dan. After realizing he wasn't there, she curled up by the door and stared vacantly at me as I walked by. German Shepherds are crazy dogs.
My generally happy, perky puppy turns into a grouchy grump the second he gets a bath. He smells a lot better, but its not a replacement for the hair cut he so desperately needs.
