We are grill people. We love to grill everything: hotdogs, hamburgers, chicken, steak, you name it. However, we had to leave our grill in Spokane upon the move last summer because it would not fit in the U-Haul (a major problem that comes with moving so frequently....things just get chucked out the window with the stress of everything and you miss them later). This weekend I left Dan with one of my credit cards for "emergencies" while I was gone (his wallet got stolen last week. Awesome). I came home and we had a grill. Apparently it was an "emergency."
Last night was the grill's ceremonial first BBQ and we made shish kabobs with steak, squash, zucchini, onions, and pineapple. That is when I got my great idea, why not BBQ fruit? I mean if you can do pineapple surely you can do bananas and strawberries, right? RIGHT?
Dan thought I was crazy but I googled it and you most certainly CAN grill bananas and strawberries. I made a sauce that was 1/4 cup butter, 2 tbs lemon juice, 2 tbs honey and brushed it onto the fruit (but not the pineapple). Then, Dan grilled the fruit for about five minutes on each side.
Lo' and behold it was delicious! I'm serious! It tasted really good! Who knew BBQ bananas and strawberries could be so great. We also grilled some pineapple and I sprinkled cinnamon and sugar on them for dessert. Fantastic. I love summer.

This makes me wish we still had a grill!!
This sounds amazing. I will be buying a grill for this summer for sure!
That looks delicious! I love grilled pineapple, but I never thought of strawberries or bananas. Josh hates fruit but maybe he'll eat it this way...
Hey can you post what you did for the steak/chicken/veggie kabobs? I always want to make them but never have. Did you marinate the meat?
Wow - that looks really amazing and delicious. Can't wait to try it out.
This looks fab, I can't wait until we have a house with a grill!
Those look SO.GOOD. I just recently read (maybe on YoungHouseLove archives? Trying to remember where...) that the char that gathers on the outside of food that you grill is carcinogenic and can be really bad for you over a long haul. I was devastated, because EVERYTHING tastes better grilled. I hope it's not true/that nothing adverse happens to me when I blatantly ignore it...
PS-- aced my con law final today!
I love grilled fruit! Grilled Shrimp and Pineapple kabobs are good too. Sadly, we also left our grill when we moved because it wouldn't fit in our UHAUL.
Umm...I'm trying this tonight! Why have I never thought of this before?!
That's a great idea! I'm going to have to try it!!
