If I could only be so lucky.
Anyways, today she had a really captivating blog that I wanted to take part in. Read it HERE. Essentially, it comes from these facebook threads- which I typically don't take part in on facebook- but I find very intriguing in the blogasphere. So I am participating in this one because it looks like fun, and mostly because I am a blind follower of dooce and all things Heather Armstrong (she's hysterical).
What are your middle names?
Mine is Ann. My mother told me I was named after Saint Ann- but once pressed she could not tell me anything about Saint Ann nor why I was named after her. Secretly I think she just like how the name "Melissa Ann!!!!" sounded when she yelled it in an angry tone. Dan's is Mathyis- which he refused to tell me for months- but I think is beautiful because it is so unique. He rarely uses it....which is why I am unsure of the spelling and am currently going though a "Oh my God, I am a bad fiance because I don't know how to spell my fiances middle name " panic attack. Which, for the record, is similar to the "what is your fiance's cell phone number?" panic attack.
How long have you been together?
20 years in "Dan and Melissa" time. 1 year and three months in this ridiculous real-world way of timing thing...
How long did you know each other before you started dating?
I first saw Dan when I was trying out for the GU Trial Team, and I specifically asked people about him after I made the team. While I definitely remembered him (and had butterflies every time I saw him!) - we didn't start dating until after he asked me to help him with his trial for his Trial Ad class.
Who asked whom out?
Ummm...I don't know that I was ever formally asked OUT on a date...but after three days of "hanging out" Dan canceled his flight home for Thanksgiving and rented a car to drive me home for Thanksgiving. Which I think is better then any "asking out" date could ever have been.
How old are each of you?
I will turn 25 next month and I am THRILLED because the quarter is my favorite piece of change and I'm excited about my impending overuse of the phrase "I think I am going through a quarter life crisis!" I am already brainstorming about what all my crises-es will be. Dan is 28 and I (like Heather) remind him constantly that when he was in high school I was doing the Macaraina in my 6th grade elementary school class.
Whose siblings do you see the most?
I think it would be my brother Ryan who lives in Boise..but for the record we don't see any of our siblings as much as we would like.
Which situation is the hardest on you as a couple?
Well, me giving up a perfectly good job in a city I loved to move to the hell hole that is Dallas, TX to waste a year of my life on a fluff job while I am a million dollars in debt has caused a lot of stress- I am really proud of Dan for getting a federal clerkship (which as a law student I understand the magnitude of), and I am embracing the move and as growing experience....that he owes me major for.
Did you go to the same school?
Not for undergrad (him Weber, me Gonzaga)- nor for our first year of law school (Me Hofstra him Gonzaga). But I like to think fate intervened and had us end up at the same law school.
Are you from the same home town?
Not even close. While I lived in Idaho Falls my whole life, he moved all over. Hence why he is so much better at the "Name that State's Capital" game then I am.
Who is smarter?
I like to think that we are equally smart...just in different ways.
Who is the most sensitive?
Me. I don't want to talk about it.
Where do you eat out most as a couple?
We are pretty good about rotating restaurants, but the winner would definitely be sushi at sushi.com in downtown Spokane.
Where is the furthest you two have traveled together as a couple?
Florida Keys for Spring Break last year. My happy place. Literally. If you tell me to go to my "happy place" it will me on the hammock at the Marriott on the beach in Key Largo,
Who has the worst temper?
I might have the quickest temper...Dan definitely has the WORST temper.
Who does the cooking?
Dan. It is so sad. Being engaged to Dan has made me completely give up on ever cooking. For example, I am so dependent on Dan's cooking that tonight when he was gone and couldn't cook dinner I made myself a bowl of popcorn for dinner. I am not kidding.
Who is the neat-freak?
We are both super clean- which is great because I think both of us could not be with messy people. However, we often are not on the same page in regard to neatness. For example, he wants all the spoons of the same size in the same compartments in the drawer. I want the stupid TV trays put away before we go to bed. Ultimately. We have a very neat silverware drawer and living room.
Who is more stubborn?
There was one time where we got in an argument regarding who was more stubborn while I was driving. I parked the car on the side of the road and refused to continue driving until he admitted I am more stubborn. I won. I have no idea why I felt the incessant need to win that particular battle.
Who hogs the bed?
I don't know what you are talking about. We are not married so obviously we don't sleep in the same bed.
Who wakes up earlier?
Dan. Its so annoying. And he picks a different song for his alarm on his blackberry every week. This week is was Eve 6 "Heart in a Blender" - which for the next half hour made me literally DREAM about someone choking on the rhine of their pride for an extra half hour. It was awful. But lord knows he has to get up at 6 AM to play Mario Kart.
Where was your first date?
How long did it take to get serious?
We were always serious. The second we started hanging out there was nobody else.
Who eats more?
Dan. But I totally kick his ass in the chocolate consumption category.
Who does the laundry?
We each do our own laundry. Dan wont let me do his laundry since I shrunk all his J Crew polos. I wont let him do my laundry because he doesn't do a load of just reds. This will work for the rest of our lives because our dogs will not have clothes and we are never having children.
Who's better with the computer?
Me. This answer may cause an argument between Dan and myself -but he does not bring his computer to class which means I have a 6 hour advantage on computer use every week. And lets be honest....who is the blogger in the family?
Who drives when you are together?
Dan. Which I have no idea why because not only have I driven in NEW YORK CITY I have ONE SPEEDING TICKET when I was 16 and it was CRAP. Dan on the other hand...
